Mythologies of the Tatusan Tribes
Tatusan Tribe, which is composed of 220 student dancers, will depict the unique culture and rich fishing livelihood of the people in the town of Caluya. Tatusan then refers to the abundant coconut crabs that could be found in the island of Caluya and are sold expensively being a delicacy. The Tatusan Tribe of the island municipality of Caluya, the grand champion in last year’s Binirayan Festival Malay-Ati competition, will be representing Antique province in the Aliwan Festival in Manila this April 28. Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, in her message delivered during the pre-performance of the Tatusan Tribe at the capitol ground on Wednesday, said that Tatusan has been invited to the Aliwan Festival. Aliwan is a yearly big event of the Department of Tourism to showcase major festivals in the country. Cadiao also pledged to give her all-out support to the performers of the Tatusan who will be bound for Manila on April 21. “This is also a manifestation of the unity of the leaders in the province,” she said. The governor, who lost only in Caluya during the last election, said this noting the presence of Caluya Mayor Genevive Lim and her Vice Mayor Diosdado Egina who were also giving strong support during the pre-performance of the Tatusan Tribe members.
Tribu Tatusan, named after “tatus,” a blue-striped crab, defended its crown. Its performers depicted giant crabs while those of Guimaras featured large mangoes, the province’s main attraction.
