Tabasarans  are a  Northeast Caucasian  ethnic group native predominantly to southern part of the  North Caucasian  republic of  Dagestan . Their population is about 155,000. The  Wolof tribe i n  Senegal ,  the Gambia , and southwestern coastal  Mauritania . In Senegal, the Wolof are the largest ethnic group (~39.7%), while elsewhere they are a minority.  They refer to themselves as  Wolof  and speak the  Wolof language , in the  West Atlantic  branch of the  Niger–Congo family  of languages.  Their early history is unclear.
